Sounds Of Imani Returns To #MusicLov3rz September!
In 1996, Carol was inspired by a God-given vision to form a contemporary Gospel group. Stepping out on faith, she gathered together some local singers and musicians from around the city. Initially, she named the group 'Imani of Detroit", but later changed it as time went on. With a clear vision and a plan, she recruited four other members to join her. A friend within the group's circle invited Gerald to come out and audition for the group. Gerald quickly jumped at the opportunity and brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from his years in the secular music world. He became the group's Public Relations representative. When Gerald and Carol first met, neither of them had any idea the plan that God was working out behind the scenes.
As time progressed, Gerald and Carol became very good friends with a common thread between them.... music. It wasn't long before their friendship blossomed into something more, and in 1999 the two were married. Eventually, the group became the duo of Gerald & Carol. After realizing how well they harmonized together and still standing on the vision God gave her, Carol and Gerald decided to continue as a duo and the name Sounds Of Imani was born. The Meaning of Imani is 'faith", and it's that same faith with has carried the group this far. S.O.I. Continues performing at various churches, special events, festivals and even weddings for their wonderful performance of love songs.
In 2002, the group released its first fll CD, "Revelation" followed by other singles. In 2013, Must Be An Angel & It's Alright was the project which gained the group some major exposure, especially overseas, releasing two singles on vinyl records in Europe. The independent contemporary project layered their smooth voices on top of some funky R&B tracks, mixed with lovely ballads and a touch of jazz. The duo, along with producer Daron Stweard collaborated on various music projects. Gerald & Carol serve as Executive Producers on their indie label Heaven-Wings Records.
S.O.I. is the recipient of numerous awards including Texas Gospel Music Excellence Awards, Royal Society of Motion Picture Awards (India), and Gospel Choice Music Awards (see website for more info.) The group has performed at Laoren Harpers's Legendary Soul of R&B, Bloomfield Hills Arts Festival, Inner Court Live TV Show, Anointed Faces Gospel Coffee House, The Gathering (Nashville,TN), Gospel Choice Music Awards (GA), and Jazz Explosion in Hart Plaza with saxophonist Yancyy -- to name a few.
Coming off the highly successful single "Come Praise The Lord" produced by Gregory Pearson & Demetrius "Krayon" Nabors (Inner Court Music), S.O.I. is releasing "Come Praise The Lord Remix, which is a house-mix of the original version, (scheduled for release June 2023), produced by Marcus "Daheatmizer" Devine & Gregory Pearson Sr. (inner Court Music). Sounds of Imani has more upcoming opportunities with Miles Away Music Group. Of course, coming f from the city where legendary singers were made: The Temptations, DeBarge, Stevie Wonder, "The Queen of Soul" Ms. Aretha Franklin, The Clark Sisters, The Winans, Fred Hammond and Commissioned, the world wouldn't expect anything less from "Sounds of Imani."
