Shammah Returns To #MusicLov3rz July!
Shammah is a Christian rap artist who was born in Guyana, South
America, and migrated to New York City at a young age. He began to
minister for the Lord Jesus Christ, shortly after being saved at the age
of twenty. He says, "God rescued me from hell at the age of twenty.
This was a very tender time for a young man to give up partying, chasing
girls, porn, and the love of this world. He delivered me from deep
involvement in the worship of false gods, due to the occult that I grew
up in, through my ancestry.
I was very impressed and in
love with the streets and the things it seemed to offer, but Jesus
saved me before I went very deep. I was never a gangster or a drug
dealer; God simply allowed me to grow up in the urban community to learn
it's language (knowing that He would save me and use me to communicate
His glorious gospel to it). I've seen so many friends and acquaintances
(from my life in the world) suffer, and even die untimely deaths. Some
were stabbed, others died by gunshot, while many suffered from
depression leading to drug use, and even suicide. I was supposed to die
by abortion in 1977, but my mother told the devil “No!, this is my only
son!”. This is why I love to address things like suicide, abortion,
drug use and gang violence in my music. All of these are the effects of
sin and I believe that only Jesus Christ's death and resurrection is
the solution to sin. My mission is to share with the world that through
Him we can have eternal life."
Shammah is an evangelist
and the name is Hebrew, meaning "God is with Him" (taken from 2 Samuel
23:11). His songs are growing in influence on radio stations in the
U.S., Canada, and also overseas including Sweden, UK and parts of the
Caribbean. With God's help he leads the evangelistic music ministry
"King's Chamber Music Group". After completing his second album
“Kingdom Come”, and also the new single “Miss Sue”, he seeks to glorify
God and truly impact this culture for Jesus Christ.
The Song “Kings and Priests” by Shammah
(featuring Carl i and Monique Bethune)
Inspiration Behind the Song:
In today’s society names like “gangster, pimpin’, nigga, and thug,”
become attached to young boys and dictate who they think they are. As a
young dude growing up in urban America, these things affected me,
before I became a christian. This song speaks of identity in Jesus
Christ, who shed His blood for the forgiveness of my(our) sins that we
may have eternal life. He has made me into a new person, and I no
longer esteem (or celebrate) what the culture says, because I now have a
new identity as a “King and Priest”.
In this song we are calling forth the “Kings and Priests” to arise
(even those who do not know yet, that they are called to be kings and
priests). It speaks against the lies which the devil has spewed over
our communities through music, that men should be intoxicated, clubbing,
womanizing, involved in drugs and gun violence. Myself and “Carl i”
can identify with much of these things; I was affected by them to say
the least. We both testify through this track that “If any man be in
Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, and behold all
things are made new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
